It Was Not Escape But Homecoming!

There I was holding the book that I was currently reading and answering, “Yes! I will be there at the airport!” I said and hung up. It turned out that Uncle Oliver, is coming to Big Apple next week. He is coming after 8 years and I can’t contain the excitement. He has been both a friend and an inspiration to me. Let me share with you all why and how!

In the heart of New York City, where the relentless rhythm of life echoed, my Uncle kept busy perpetually in the pursuit of success. A race against time that seemed never-ending! He had built his career in finance, climbing the corporate ladder with tenacity and determination. Yet, the higher he ascended, the more he felt the weight of his choices pressing upon him. His days were consumed by demanding meetings, late-night calls, and a constant barrage of emails. Free time became a luxury!

One evening, as the sun dipped below the Manhattan skyline, he stood on the rooftop of his apartment building. It was in this quiet moment that a realization dawned upon him – it was time to let go. Let go the life that he had built over so many years. The decision didn’t come easy but he craved moments of serenity and connections with others. Also, the freedom to savor the simple pleasures that life had to offer.

With newfound determination, he began the process. He resigned from his high-powered job. He bid farewell to the corner office with a view, and embraced the uncertainty that lay ahead. He traded the chaos of Wall Street for the tranquility of Central Park.

As the seasons changed, so did Uncle Oliver. He rediscovered the joy of a leisurely stroll, the pleasure of a good book, and the warmth of human connection. This paved the way for self-discovery and growth. Just like spring leads the way for new beginnings, this bold decision paved the way for a different life! Something that he rejoices from the core of his heart!

“I did what my inner calling said!” He had expressed with a smile at that time. His decision was not an escape but a homecoming to his true self. In letting go, he had gained a newfound appreciation for life’s fleeting moments. Through this act of his, I learned the lesson that sometimes, the most courageous act is to choose a different path. A path that you have long yearned for and finally get to live.
