AdrianThe multi-cultural Adrian is a Chinese-Puerto Rican who loves both his parents’ heritages. He’s studying to be an actor and hopes to make it big in the New York theater scene. He works as a caterer to support himself while in pursuit of his dream career. He’s also my part-time critic, idea box, and roommate. He’s a great guy to have around the house because of his sense of humor. Sometimes I envy Adrian because he still has it in him to chase his dream–as opposed to me, who’s moved on.

Donna“Save the World” Donna is my colleague. Divorced, Donna has two kids, Ethan and Emily, whom she calls her biggest accomplishments. Originally from the Boston area, Donna was raised in a politically active family that has always found time for charity, non-profit work, etc. She says it’s even more of a focus now because she wants a better world for her children.

Fred“Power to the People” Fred is named after the abolitionist and reformer Frederick Douglass. He’s a tall guy with long dreads. This Vietnam War era veteran was born and brought up in Motor City–Detroit. He moved to New York right after the Million Man March and fell in love with this city because of its diversity and rich cultural heritage. Fred is retired now, but he spent many years working to improve the living conditions of New York’s marginalized residents across all the boroughs.

KateThe dramatic Kate can cry at the drop of any hat–-proverbial or otherwise. She can start crying looking at two people holding hands in the park! Kate does some TV commercials, trade show presentations, and was proud to be the local weather girl at the TV station back home in Iowa. Kate is also ultra romantic and a natural blonde.

King KongI found Kong on the street near a dumpster right after I moved into my new apartment. I was cleaning up my new place and throwing things away. Before I got my own place, I had to crash at my sister Liz’s for about two months. Looking for a place to live in New York is a nightmare! So I pretty much knew what it was like to be stranded out in the streets.

Mrs. BradleyMrs. Bradley grew up in NY. Her husband, Jim, died in 2001. He was a WWII veteran. She’s into gardening, so I need to keep an eye on Kong. Every once in a while Kong gets loose and digs up her garden. She says she doesn’t mind much the dog playing around, but the clean up takes a lot of work. I try to help by keeping Kong out of her roses.
