Trusting Your Truth!

Over the weekend, I met up with my friend Mia at the Mardi Gras festivities at our favorite restaurant. However, Mia’s weariness was hard to miss. “Hey, Mia. You seem troubled—what’s on your mind?” I asked.

She exhaled deeply. “Lately, every decision I make ends up upsetting someone—whether it’s my husband, my in-laws, my parents or my boss. No matter what I do, someone always disagrees and it leaves me feeling like I’m constantly in the wrong.”

I listened carefully. “That sounds incredibly overwhelming. Tell me, when you make these choices, are they truly aligned with what you believe is right?”

After a moment of reflection, she replied, “I think so. I try to take everyone’s perspective into account, but ultimately, I choose what feels right to me.”

“That’s essential,” I said. “Living authentically means making decisions that resonate with your inner truth—even if they don’t please everyone. It’s impossible to satisfy every expectation, and in trying to do so, we risk losing ourselves.”

Mia looked at me. “So, you’re saying I need to trust myself more and not let others’ opinions dictate my path?”

“Exactly,” I affirmed. “A solid life is built on a foundation of authenticity. When we base our decisions solely on others’ expectations or on what we think will appease them, we create a fragile existence. Embracing your truth not only honors who you are but also sets an example for others to follow.”

A slow smile emerged on Mia’s face, and relief seemed to replace some of her tension. “I never looked at it that way. Thanks for helping me see things differently.”
