It was last Saturday! Aaliyah and I woke up early to make arrangements for one of our favorite festivity – Thanksgiving! The time of the year when we notice the simple pleasures and count our blessings! A lot of excitement is around as this year we have our old friend Fred too. How much we have missed his poetry!
“Roasted turkey, Cheesy Rice, Squash Casserole, Skillet Cornbread, Gratin, Mashed potato with Brussels sprout, Pumpkin pie… All are in the menu, Bob!” Expressed Aaliyah. “The list just made me hungry Aaliyah!” I replied. She laughed.
The doorbell rang. It was Mrs. Bradley with two big boxes in her hand!
“This year has been challenging for me just like all of us and we are still fighting our way through the pandemic. Away from my sons, I never feel alone due to you both. I am thankful for having another family of mine living right next to me. Bob and Aaliyah, I have made these truffle pastries and Choco chip muffins for you both. I know how much you both are fond of them!”
Aaliyah and I were touched by her sweet gesture! “We are a family, Mrs. Bradley! We fight the good times and celebrate the good times together!” I expressed! We took the pastries and the muffins.
“And, we know how much you love waffles!” expressed Aaliyah and served some waffles and nachos for Mrs. Bradley. She smiled. Our conversation stretched till the afternoon and stopped when Mrs. Bradley finally left for some work.
“We are so blessed, Bob! Surely this year has been rough but we still have so many things to be thankful for!” Expressed Aaliyah.
“I agree my love! A thankful heart turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, noise into melody and, a stranger into a friend!” I replied. I played some countryside music and we got back with our Thanksgiving arrangements!
Gratitude makes the heart humble and rooted. It paves the way for a fulfilling life. Through the lens of gratitude we see life as a miracle and rejoice every moment.
While there are so many things to be thankful for, do let me know what you are especially thankful for this Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
