Thanks And Giving Makes Thanksgiving!

Small cheer and great welcome makes a merry feast.” William Shakespeare

Thanksgiving is a blend of two greatest virtues ‘thanks’ and ‘giving’. For me it is the greatest opportunity to make good all the follies that weaken our relations with our folks.

We are getting ready for our Thanksgiving gathering, what about you? It is the time to send heartfelt invitations to loved ones and renew our relationships. It is the time to send an extra helping of smiles and laughter to our friends.

In my home, we start the meal by telling the story of Thanksgiving to the children of the family. They love to learn about the origins of the holiday. It’s not only about football, parades, turkey, cranberry sauce and the delicious sweet potatoes. Thanksgiving has its roots dating back to the Pilgrims celebrating their first harvest in the “New World” in 1621. This feast was said to last for three days and to be attended by 90 Native Americans and 53 Pilgrims. The holiday was religious in nature and thanks were given to God for survival and the prosperity that was enjoyed. The Pilgrims didn’t have it easy their first few years in this country. They struggled, but still they were able to set this time aside to give thanks.

Welcome a friend or family member to your Thanksgiving Dinner.

It is a simple yet powerful gesture. It’s also a great way to establish a family tradition of unity and sharing as it leads to prosperity and good fortune. Each year, we also try to invite someone who doesn’t have family with whom to share the holiday.  It may be one of your colleagues, who is far from home, or a neighbor, or someone from a foreign country who has never experienced the holiday.

Thanksgiving spirit is incomplete without experiencing heartfelt gratefulness and selfless giving. Put the ‘thanks’ and ‘giving’ back in Thanksgiving to enjoy its true essence.

Invite your folks with our choicest invitations now!
