What is the most beautiful feeling in the world? Love? Possession of material comforts? The latest iPhone? Well, it’s the freedom to speech, action and reaction. That’s the most beautiful feeling in the world. Fourth of July is a day of celebration for us all. But spare a moment to the past and present.

Sacrifices were made by people, whom we don’t even know by names, history is understood not only by reading about it, but by remembering those, who have given their lives to give us free air to breathe. And at present, there are soldiers fighting out in two different countries and many more stationed all around the world, away from their families, ready to lay their lives down jus’ so we can watch a movie without looking over our shoulder, have a drink without panicking, and sit for dinner with our near and dear ones without for a moment worrying about if our family is safe. Let’s have a lot of fun. Let’s live it up this day. We have the right to do it. We have earned it. But do remember those brave souls, who stand vigil. Happy Fourth of July!

‘Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.’ Hell hath no fury like angry Aaliyah. Especially, if you tend to forget her birthday. It was 10 in the night and I still hadn’t wished her. Can you beat that? I asked her to meet me at Famous Dave’s at 10:30 p.m. She was there, I wasn’t. She waited half an hour and then I texted her. “Sorry, caught up with something… Can’t make it there… Pls meet me at Centro Vinoteca at around 11:15… I will be there, I promise.” I knew she would be fuming. Hmm… She dutifully reached the place and waited… And waited.

I had the guts to give her a call and say, “I am really, really sorry… Aaliyah. Middle of a conference call… Can’t make it today, sweetheart. Will meet you in the morning!” I didn’t let her reply. Think I should be slapped for that? I guess.

She was in tears and had texted me at least four expletive laden messages, while she took a cab back home. She opened the door and hit the switch. And I was there. The clock chimed 12. “Happy Birthday, Aaliyah!” I had filled her room with balloons, collage of her photos, roses from bed to table, petals on the floor, fragrant candles, wine with delicious steak steaming and hot, a big teddy bear, that she can hug to sleep, Kong by my side with a birthday cap on. I sported a big smile and in my hand had the off shoulder dress, that she always had an eye on, but would never buy it because it’s quite expensive. Her both hands were on her mouth and her eyes welled up.

One of the most beautiful evenings ever. She cut the cake and fed it to all involved–me myself and Kong. Wine did its magic and the dress made the evening even more romantic. Sweet nothings, words of love and a lot more talk and the best nap ever on the lap of a girl, I love the most in the world. It was her birthday, but I got all the gifts.
