Happy Marriages and Engagements from Editor Bob

Hey,

Are you enjoying June? It’s almost over! Isn’t it amazing how time flies? Talk about time, Kate’s engagement party is just around the corner. Isn’t it weird? It’s like she just met Jeffrey like yesterday, and now she’s about to get married to him.

  Kate’s Engagement Party

Needless to say Kate’s really really excited about her engagement party. Jeffrey didn’t want to make it into a big deal, so they’re having a small gathering of friends and family for a Sunday picnic in the park. Kate’s parents won’t be able to make it from Iowa, so we’re going to be her family. Kate said that she’d like us to be there, “After all, you guys have been my family for a while now. I think that’s what happens when you start living away from your family–your immediate friends become your family,” said Kate, teary-eyed, “and you guys are not just my best friends, you’re my family too.” Isn’t that really sweet of her?I’m kinda nervous and excited to meet Jeffrey’s parents actually. I don’t really know why. I might moan and groan about how much Kate talks about Jeffrey and share her mushy lovey-dovey stuff but I’m really happy for her. And I can’t wait to tell you guys about the engagement picnic-party! You’re gonna have to definitely stay tuned for that.

Celebrate Your Marriage Day [Jun 28]

Talk about engagements and weddings, guess what happened the other morning? I really believe that mornings have power: they can fill you with the most wonderful thoughts or can shock you out of your senses. The other morning, I was just lazing around when the door-bell jarred me out of my stupor. Adrian was not home. I went to answer the call. The door ushered in Liz, with her eyes red and puffy. Without waiting for me to ask anything, Liz broke out into a monologue, fast but most evidently, furious.

I wont go into the details of what she sputtered, I could not follow everything myself! But the root of her morning visit was that she had a fight with her husband David. Rachel went to a sleep over the night before and she was on her way to pick her up. I was quite disturbed by the turn of events and just when she was about to speak on the cause of it all, Mrs. Bradley walked in.

She had exactly the calm that my room demanded. I left her to handle it. She heard Liz out and explained to her in a soft, soothing voice, the responsibility and restraint entangled in the bonds of marriage. She made a patient effort to tone down Liz’s temper and at the same time, made it a point that Liz understood what she was trying to say. After about half an hour of counseling, Liz was ready to get Rachel and head back home. Really, older people have an amazing influence when it comes to explaining things and putting things in perspective. Mrs. Bradley saved the day for me.

Tech Support Appreciation Day [Jun 30]

Have you checked out the new redesign of the newsletter section at 123Greetings? Doesn’t it look slick and cool? It’s all because of our designers and tech teams working together ya know. We’ve also done a couple of redesigns to the main 123Greetings website. If you haven’t seen it, click here to check it out. And don’t forget to send feedback to little ol’ me!Of course, our man Steve has been behind the scenes sweating his butt off making sure all the systems work. After all, he wants a better, stronger, faster ecard engine so we can all enjoy the benefits. He’s been pouring his energy into work because it didn’t work out with his long distance love. Remember the geek gal he met at the conference? If you didn’t catch the story, you can read it here.

He’s been down about the break up. Steve and I have been keeping each other company. What can I say, misery likes company. But I told him that we can look for dates together–I don’t know what I was thinking when I said that. Knowing his luck with dates is worse than mine. I’m hoping the two of us having bad luck will cancel each other out and get good luck. I’m probably asking too much, aren’t I? Who knows, maybe we can both have girlfriends together… we’ll just have to wait and see.

Irina’s Going to Martha’s Vineyard

And guess who’s going steady right now? Miss Fashion Queen herself, Irina! She’s traveling with her beau to Martha’s Vineyard… on a yacht! Ya, of course she’s been showing off stuff to us–Kate and Irina is literally neck-to-neck competing each other and their significant others. Boy, women can get C-R-A-Z-Y!Apparently, her beau owns a beautiful yacht–he’s going to be taking her on it from the New York yacht club all the way to Martha’s Vineyard. “It’s supposed to be a pleasant trip,” Irina told us. I hope it’s a pleasant trip, I know now how she’s going to do, she’s never been on a boat! “We’re going there for the Fourth of July weekend,” said Irina, “We’re going to be living on the yacht and go to dinners and meet his friends on land. Isn’t that so cool?” Irina seemed to be drunk with glamor but something underneath me also say that she’s really into this guy. I haven’t met him yet, but from what I’ve been hearing, he seems to be pretty cool.

Thinking of love and marriages makes me think of a Zen quote, (ya, closing time already folks!) Mark Twain, one of my favorite writers, wrote: “Love seems the swiftest, but it is the slowest of all growths. No man or woman really knows what perfect love is until they have been married a quarter of a century.” I hope my friends are happy with their significant others, and I’m sure Liz and David will be fine, after all, no love without a bit of drama, right?

  6. Hi Bob

I am your fan from Hong Kong. The more I read your newsletter, the more I feel you are a friend of mine although I don’t really know you. What you write is very human and you have a sense of humour. I just separate from my husband and am looking for a new life too. Sometimes, your newsletter makes my day. Thank you very much!. I am sure you will find the right girlfriend soon. If not, enjoy your life being single for the time being. Remember, you have a lot of friends who make your life colorful.

    Cheers
    Jenny

  7. Hi Bob!

I always enjoy your newletters and the Zen quotes.

However, I always thought it was “yacht” and you write “yatch”. Is that an Americanism for what’s “yacht” in ‘Queen’s English’?

    Gita

  8. Hi Bob,
Thank You for your newsletter. Is very nice. Except that ” Hey” is for horses…..there
are so many ways to starts a letter.Sorry to
tell you this, but I hate when somebody refer to me as ” Hey ”
    Have a good day !
    Cecilia

  9. I enjoy reading your newsletters very much. Keep ’em coming.!

Just wanted to let you know that you guys misspelled “yacht.” The newsletter has it spelled “yatch.”

  10. I’ve written a poem that may help others attract a “friend”:

I’M LOOKING FOR THAT CERTAIN LOOK
WHEN YOU NEEDN’T SPEAK A WORD
TO KNOW THAT FROM ACROSS THE ROOM
    YOUR HEART IS BEING HEARD
I’M LOOKING FOR THAT SPECIAL ONE
    TO SWEETLY HOLD MY HAND
THUS TELLING ME WITH A GENTLE SQUEEZE
THAT I AM “OH SO GRAND”
SO PLEASE DEAR GOD, IF YOU GRANT ME THIS
    I PROMISE NOT TO ROAM
FOR EVEN IN A CROWDED ROOM
    I SOMETIMES FEEL ALONE
BUT IF YOU WOULD TURN A HEART TO ME
THAT HE AND I COULD BLEND
I’D BE EVER SO VERY GRATEFUL
HAVING FOUND ME JUST ONE FRIEND

I have written many heartfelt poems, new baby, anniversary, birthday, sympathy. If you’re interested in my verbiage in your cards, let me know, maybe we could work out a deal.
Thanks, you have my e-mail address.
    Peggy Kane

  14. Bob, I like reading your newsletters, but would like to point out that yatch should be yacht, and Irina and Liz “is” should be “are”. Probably just an overlook, and don’t mean to be picky. Like I said, I enjoy reading your newsletters, so keep them coming. Thanks, Jean

  20. Hi Bob, I look forward to your newsletter each week. I got a kick out of your recent cross country drive to your folks and all the happenings in your life and your friends. Don’t lose heart; there’s a gal out there for you-you’re young. I’m in my 60’s and I have to tell you I pick up from your writings that you respect older people and I appreciate that as yeah we’ve been there and perhaps have a little wisdom. Oh yes, and the new design is great.

  23. I AM AN OLD READER OF YOURS, AND I’M BACK ON THE SCENE. LOVE VERY MUCH YOUR NEWSLETTERS,IT IS REALAXING TO READ AND SOMETIMES SO FUNNY AND YET SO HEART FELT, KEEP UP THE GOOD JOB!
    ROSETTE

  24. I am not much of a reader, but your newsletter is SO ROMANTIC! If life was as loving and caring as portrayed, we would all have smiles on our faces 24/7. Enjoy the engagement party! I am jealous about the yacht weekend:)

I am going to pass this on to a couple of my friends. Keep up the good work!

  25. I love reading your newsletters and look forward to the weekly adventures with much anticipation. I must say, however, I got a good chuckle with this past edition as you refer to a yacht as a “yatch”. Perhaps that is the New York way of pronouncing this word that would describe the luxury form of water transporation, however, I think that spell check may be in need. haha
Have a most wonderful day and enjoy the east coast and the warmth that summer now does bring.

  26. perhaps the word “HEY” means well from Bob!

I like to use the “HEY” word when i consider someone that is my buddy. I believe Bob considers all of us readers as his buddies!

    right Bob the bud?

But again, that’s only my own opinion.

ps: thanks for the free ecards again, bob. I sent them to several special friends of mine, and one of your ecards has made them cry.
