If you’re still caught in last minute planning and find yourself a little dry on Halloween party ideas, maybe you could take inspiration on how different cultures celebrate Halloween for an extra dose of chills and thrills.
Mexico’s version of Halloween, the “Day of the Dead”, has roots in ancient Aztec culture. So instead of Jack-o’-lanterns, they have dressed up Catrina dolls – a female skeleton dressed up in upper-class European dresses – to honour their Queen of the Underworld.
In Scottish Gaelic tradition, children would make Halloween lanterns with a devilish face out of scooped out turnips instead of pumpkins. The roots of Halloween lie in Samhain , a Celtic festival, observed in Ireland, Scotland and Isle of Man. It has a traditional game called “snap-apple” instead of bobbing for apples, where an apple is hung from doorframe or tree and players try to take a bite out of it!
