The sun dips below the horizon, casting a warm, golden glow over the iconic skyline of Manhattan. The air is chilly and people on the streets are bundled up in stylish coats, scarves and hats – winter is here!
With the city being adorned in festive lights and a crisp chill in the air, winter evening in New York City is so enchanting. Last evening both Aaliyah and I were in a mood to enjoy our time outdoors.
We decided to take a stroll through Central Park, where the trees are dusted with a light layer of snow and the pathways are adorned with twinkling holiday lights. The serene atmosphere of the park contrasts with the lively city that surrounds it. I heard the distant sounds of laughter and music as I passed by groups of friends and families enjoying the winter evening.
We came across a charming coffee cart with a cheerful vendor serving hot beverages to passersby. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee and warm roasted nuts filled the air.
“Let’s indulge!” Suggested Aaliyah. “Yes, let’s!” I said we indulged in a cup of steaming hot chocolate, topped with a generous dollop of whipped cream, and grabbed a bag of roasted chestnuts to keep our hands warm.
Continuing our stroll, we reached a place, where a talented street musician was playing a soft melody on a guitar. The sound echoed through the arches and created a magical ambiance. We took a moment to admire the view of the frozen lake, where people were gliding across the ice on skates. As we exited the park and were on Fifth Avenue, we saw that the shops were adorned with elaborate decorations. We went in and then Aaliyah tried out a few things and then she bought a beautiful red silk scarf.
We walked a bit further and then came across the old favorite restaurant where we used to go during the initial years of dating. “You want to have dinner? The same old place with country music in the background?” I asked. “You just read my mind. Yes!” She said. We entered the cozy place and were greeted by the old waiter who recognized us. We ordered the usual from the menu and then enjoyed the rest of the night with good food and drinks. It was a beautiful winter evening!
Winter – a time that is symbolic of different things for different people. For some it is leaving the old behind, for some it is about quiet reflections, for some it is a time of closure. For me it is simply about learning my lessons from the past year and then moving on. Also, not to forget it is also the time where I absolutely love spending time with my loved ones and feel grateful for having them around.
