I was talking to my friend, who is a teacher at middle school, the other day. He was one of the most opinionated guy I have ever known. He was a sweet guy though.
We usually have animated conversations and today were no different.
I was talking about going to church the coming Sunday and he was quite unapologetic about his argument that there is no God and going to church is a waste of time.
I begged to differ, but kept quiet.
He went on to say that terrorist attacks and misery in the world exists and if there is a God and if he is supposed to be good, then such things wouldn’t be allowed in the world. He would have taken care of all these things by Himself anyway.
I didn’t want to argue as this could get ugly. He is quite adamant with his side of the story always and doesn’t have much of an open mind.
I somehow think atheism is a style statement to a few.
As we were speaking, we saw uncle Frank walking down the street and he was a complete illiterate. He never went to school and never learned a word.
I turned around to my friend and said, “I think teachers don’t exist!”
My friend said, “Yeah right, then who am I?”
“Well, I don’t know, look at uncle Frank, he is 100% illiterate and if he is such, then how come I can believe that teachers exist?” I said.
My friend was angry now and shouted, “He should have come to me then, I am a teacher and if he is a illiterate, he should have sought a teacher!”
“God is there too, my friend. There are people who don’t go to Him. And that’s not his fault.” I said.
For once there was silence.
I am not proclaiming that one should buy my opinion, but I am just saying there is space for everyone in this world even God.
