Laughter is the best medicine. Laugh for an hour or two before going to bed. That seems to be the idea. Late night shows on television tries to tickle your funny bone along with some hard core news. Here are some of them that keep you awake at night: The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Last Call with Carson Daly, Late Show with David Letterman, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, The Colbert Report, Real Time With Bill Maher, Red Eye with Greg Gutfeld, Chelsea Lately, Lopez Tonight, Conan, etc.
Some of these shows have hosts who are around for years and others have individuals who are around for decades. Some have seen more than 3 to 4 Presidents. They have made fun of anybody and everybody. Common man, senator, congressman to President… Everything is allowed, none is taboo.
The best part about these shows is their way of presenting real news and current affairs in an entertaining way. Especially, the fake news shows like the ones hosted by Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert. Subconscious absorbs the news while we smile at the jokes. Good ploy.
If awareness is spread and ignorance is fought with the help of these shows, good for us. The importance of these on public psyche isn’t lost on the politicians too. They pick and choose the best in the business and sit on their couch for a chat. It helps them connect with a lot of people whom they otherwise wouldn’t be able to get in touch with through any other forum.
Unless there is no bias and if the scripts prepared induce a good amount of laughter, then the late night comedians are doing us a favor.
