Did you know that it’s Hug a Bear Day on 7th November?
I will secretly admit that I still keep my childhood teddy bear, and he sure is going to be getting a big hug from me tomorrow! At first I thought I was the only odd one who still keeps his childhood teddy bear, so I was sure glad to find out yesterday that there are others like me.

I popped over to see Donna after work yesterday. Her kids, Ethan and Emily, were fighting over the remote and which cartoons to watch on television.
Donna and I laughed over the squabbling kids, and I told her how they reminded me of my childhood when my sister and I would fight over which cartoons to watch. I, being the bigger one, would bully her into giving in and she would run to her room and hug her teddy for comfort. Donna smiled nostalgically.
“Oh, I was much the same!” she beamed. “In fact, I still have my childhood teddy bear! I know this might sound stupid, but sometimes, when I have a really bad day at work, I would pull out my old teddy and give him a huge hug. It always brings back a familiar comfort.”
“Oh Donna,” I laughed, “I’m glad I’m not the only one! I still have my childhood teddy too. I guess there’s just something about teddy bears that connect us with love and cheer.”
Emily, who had lost the remote control war with her brother, then ran up to us to holding her favorite teddy. She was bubbling over with excitement about how she and her teddy would fight crime, save the day, and still complete her schoolwork and have fun with family.
I loved the imagination spirit in Emily. And somehow, I could see little Emily growing up to be like her own mom – a fighting spirit for justice who still makes time for the family and friends she loves.
It just goes to show that teddy bears are more than just a cute stuffed bear. They are the doors for our imagination and the best friend who represents unconditional love and happiness. Do you still keep your childhood teddy bear? And while we’re reminiscing, let’s take a moment to remind everyone of this unconditional love and cheer by sending bear hugs to everyone for Hug a Bear Day tomorrow!
