You feel secure in his presence. If womb is the shelter then dad is the guardian. He is a mom in man’s attire.
That’s the only difference.
He usually and almost always comes second when given his due in the parental hierarchy. Rightly so. Mom is a completely different story altogether. I would say there is no competition but they complement each other to provide the kids that we are with happiness.
There is a reason why a mom had to have her husband stand by her side.
Let’s see what difference he makes in our life:
He provides.
He keeps us secure.
He leads by example.
He shows and shares discipline.
He doesn’t ask. He doesn’t expect.
Even a machine cannot be programmed such. We don’t give him flowers neither do we take him out for a movie. We don’t share gossip with him much and we don’t include him in our heart to heart talks everyday. Daughter or son, we look up at him most of the times as someone who is not in with the trend of today. Well, that ridiculous thought of we know better than him fades very soon.
But there are moments when we do that. At adolescence and when we become a father ourselves, we start to understand what he really is and slowly gravitate towards him emotionally. And the relationship becomes different.
It becomes better.
The point is, may be if we had thought about what he is all about for a few minutes, we may have figured out.
We took him for granted.
And maybe that’s why there is a day celebrating him. Not for giving him gifts and praises, but to sit down and think of this great man on this day and find an understanding that he truly deserves.
A father- child relationship is like no other. It is special.
Ties of blood and heart seldom grow apart. Get together with your old man on this beautiful day.
