Rachel, my niece, can never do without her box of cookies. She has this amazing collection of cookies ranging from ordinary to extraordinary in size, shape and taste. And then there is my little nephew, Roland, who has a big box of the greatest collection of assorted chocolates from chocolate to vanilla and more.
Both are inseparable from their little boxes and would sneak a peek in from time to time to devour the delicacies. Well, kids being kids they couldn’t resist the temptation of owning each others’ boxes.
So, they struck a deal and had their boxes exchanged.
All’s well in the world, you think?
No.
Rachel was not her usual self in the evening and I didn’t know why. She seemed not to be enjoying the new box she has wrested over a deal from Roland either.
She was not playing and had a look of contemplation all evening.
At last, I went over and asked her what is wrong.
She said, “Uncle Bob, when I had given Roland my box of cookies, I held back my favorite cookies and hid it under my bed. I don’t know if Roland did the same with his chocolates. I don’t feel good.”
What a thing to say?!
What a deed to do?!
I didn’t like what she did, but what she was going through was deserved. Though she had her favorite cookies hidden she wasn’t sure if she had gotten an ordinary box of chocolates as she suspected the same act to have been committed by Roland.
You may get rich stealing or cheating, but it wouldn’t give you peace or happiness and that’s the moral of the story.
I asked her to apologize and she did. Now, they shared their boxes and smiled happily.
That’s what happens. You got to do it right and if you don’t then make amends and apologize.
Have a great week ahead.
