Aaliyah and I were leaving office together and we hailed a taxi. Aaliyah got out first… She always carries our photo book with her. It has all the beautiful memories that we shared till now. She and I equally have spent time on it, placing the pictures and writing sweet little notes below it.
This is a treasured piece of book that we love. When she was alighting from the taxi she saw it fall on the seat and as she was in a hurry she asked me to keep it with me and she will collect it in the evening.
It was late for office and I somehow made it at the last moment. As I stepped into the elevator, I noticed what I have left behind.
The photo book.
I was distraught. I couldn’t work the whole day. I was sure Aaliyah would kill me for this. I didn’t have the guts to call her up and tell her.
I just texted her that I left it in the taxi.
She came over in the evening and the dreading moment came. I blurted out a sorry.
She just said this to me… “I love you, Bob!”
I was taken aback. There was not a hint of anger in her voice. I asked her why?
She said, “Bob, your loss is equal to mine. Your guilt is greater than mine. I am to blame too, I could’ve picked it up. No point in hurting over something that’s over. That’s just a impression of our memories. We are the originals. We can create many more memories.”
“I love you, Aaliyah” I said.
Enough of pointing fingers, folks. Past is past. Look forward.
