Cookie Day is on December 4 and that means its time to break out the baking goods and create some of your favorite batches of fresh cookies! Whether you like traditional chocolate chip or good old-fashioned peanut butter, throw some dough in the oven and make your sweet tooth very happy! Did you know the word cookie is derived from a Dutch word meaning little cake? Cookies are just a crunchier version of fluffy cake!

Cookies are an important part of the holiday season, it’s the one time of year we get indulge in all sorts of different holiday sweets! There is also a tradition in which children leave fresh baked cookies for St. Nicholas on Christmas Eve, sometimes even with a glass of milk! On December 6, we celebrate St. Nicholas Day. It is a mostly European tradition in which a festival is commemorated for children to show their appreciation for St. Nick and his reputation for gift giving.

Another beautiful tradition that can be seen around the world during the holidays is a very unique decoration. Poinsettias can be found everywhere during Christmastime, their gorgeous bright red leaves are very recognizable. Did you know the poinsettia is indigenous to Mexico and Central America? The plant was first introduced to the United States in 1825 and has been a holiday staple ever since!

The holidays bring a sense of warm, cozy feelings. Ignite the cheer by adding some of your favorite cookies! Don’t forget to appreciate the tradition that is St. Nick and complete your holiday decorations with a poinsettia.
